HC Deb 03 April 1974 vol 871 c397W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what is now his policy with regard to the closing of border roads; and how many are now closed:

(2) what steps are being taken to prevent the use of unapproved frontier crossings.

Mr. Orme

Unapproved border crossings are closed where such action will assist the security forces in operations against terrorists and after careful consideration of the social consequences and of the views of people living in the area. It is not possible to prevent the use of all unapproved crossings; 31 have at present been closed and the remainder are patrolled by security forces or otherwise kept under surveillance.
