HC Deb 03 April 1974 vol 871 cc379-80W
Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what future rôle he has in mind for the Action Group on London Housing.

Mr. Kaufman

As chairman of the group I have made a point of holding an early special meeting in order to discuss with members how best to make use of their great experience and expertise in the solution of London's housing prob- lems. As a result we have agreed to concentrate on two main areas of work. The first will be to continue the consideration of the problems facing London authorities in dealing with their older housing, and particularly the factors to be considered when devising housing renewal strategies embracing both redevelopment and improvement. The group will continue the series of visits to discuss these problems with London boroughs on which it has already embarked. Secondly, it will be turning its attention to the new house building programmes of the London housing authorities, with the particular object of ensuring that housing land identified in the Land Availability Survey is brought into use as speedily and effectively as possible.
