asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many recruits were enlisted in the UDR during the last 12-month period.

The total number of recruits enlisted in the Ulster Defence Regiment in the 12 months to 1st April 1974 was 1,125, of whom 41 were potential officers.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the present strength of the UDR.

The current total strength of the Ulster Defence Regiment is 7,778, including 419 women.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many resignations there have been from the UDR in the last 12-month period; and what were the ranks of those who resigned.

There have been 1,174 resignations from the Ulster Defence Regiment in the year to 1st April 1974 of which 24 were officers.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the number of applicants for the UDR who have been rejected during the last 12-month period (1) on medical grounds and (2) for other reasons.

In the 12-month period to 1st April 1974, 53 applicants were rejected on medical grounds and 235 for other reasons.
