HC Deb 02 April 1974 vol 871 c334W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the circumstances which led to the injury of two Royal Ulster Constabulary constables by a booby-trapped van at Annaghmore, Toomebridge, on Sunday 24th March 1974.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The vehicle concerned in this incident was reported stolen on Saturday 23rd March. It was discovered and identified by the two constables on Sunday 24th March. There was no indication that this was anything more than a routine matter of a stolen and abandoned vehicle. However, when the door of the vehicle was opened, an explosion occurred, injuring both constables.
