HC Deb 02 April 1974 vol 871 c323W
Q14. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether he will take action to ensure that Members of Parliament are not kept waiting for periods of between four weeks to 12 weeks for replies to communications which, when the eventual reply is received, shows that an answer could have been sent within a few days of receipt of the Member's original communication.

The Prime Minister

The Minister in charge of each Department is responsible for ensuring that Members of Parliament receive replies with as much dispatch as possible. I do not consider it would be useful to lay down a rigid time limit.
