HC Deb 02 April 1974 vol 871 cc308-9W
Mr. Flannery

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a considerable increase in the London allowance for teachers in order to help the situation which has developed in the education of children in Inner London.

Mr. Armstrong

The largest increase permissible at that time under the current pay code was offered last November by the Burnham Management Panel and rejected by the teachers. The Pay Board has been asked to report by the middle of the year on its review of London weighting generally. In the debate on the Address my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment urged all concerned to await the outcome of this independent examination, which the problems of London weighting manifestly required.
