§ Dr. GilbertI take it my hon. Friend is referring to returns under Section 19(1)(c) of the Taxes Management Act 1970. Inspectors of taxes in Birmingham have issued 128 notices under this provision to agents—including estate agents—in receipt of rent or other payments arising from land, requiring particulars of payments in 1972–73. Ninety-two of the 128 forms issued have so far been returned.
§ Mr. Rookerasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what has been the total value in each of the last three years of income tax reductions granted to people in Birmingham as a result of information passed by estate agents to Her Majesty's inspector of taxes;
(2) how many people in Birmingham have been granted income tax reductions as a result of information passed by estate agents to Her Majesty's inspectors of taxes.
