HC Deb 01 April 1974 vol 871 cc261-2W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will introduce a system whereby persons owning or having the use of more than two residences will pay a penal taxation on all residences in excess of two.

Dr. Gilbert

My right hon. Friend will consider my hon. Friend's suggestion, together with any other representations he may receive, in connection with the Green Paper he proposes to publish on the wealth tax. In the meantime my right hon. Friend has announced in his Budget speech his intention to limit relief in future for mortgage interest payments to interest incurred on loans to purchase or improve a taxpayer's principal place of residence.
