asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the number of persons attending drug-addiction centres at a convenient date who were prescribed methadone, together with a breakdown of those who were prescribed ampoules only, those with linctus only and those who had ampoules and linctus.

Information in this form is not readily available. As at 31st December 1973, 1,236 persons were being prescribed methadone at National Health Service hospitals, including drug treatment centres, in England and Wales, either in the form of ampoules, linctus or both.
