HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 cc658-9W
Mr. Ian Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what emphasis, in his policy of reducing the number of vehicle testing stations, has been placed on the need for such stations in rural areas.

Mr. Peyton

Any revisions of the MOT testing system must hold a balance between the convenience of the motorist and improvement of the supervision of testing stations, by which higher and more uniform standards can be achieved. I am well aware of the need to have stations within reasonable reach of all motorists, particularly in rural areas.

Mr. Ian Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the number and location of vehicle testing stations in West Dunbartonshire.

Mr. Peyton

I will write to the hon. Member as soon as the information is available.

Mr. Ian Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when the review of vehicle testing stations will be completed; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peyton

I shall soon be putting forward proposals for a revision of the MOT testing system for comment by those interested.
