HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 c721W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will take steps to ensure that publicity is given to the names of those individuals or bodies who have been proved knowingly to have evaded taxes.

Mr. Nott

No. The rules of confidentiality relating to taxpayers' affairs limit publicity to cases to tax evaders who have been subject to court proceedings.

Mr. Meacher

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will establish a special squad in the Inland Revenue to counteract sophisticated tax avoidance schemes which inspectors currently do not have time to tackle.

Mr. Nott

Special sections already exist for this purpose.
