§ 36. Mr. Biffenasked the Secretary of state for the Home Department what assessment he has made of fire risks arising from autumn straw and stubble burning; and if he will take action to make more widely known the dangers implicit in this practice and the code of practice that could minimise such hazards.
§ Mr. LaneThese risks are clearly explained in the straw-burning code prepared by the National Farmers' Union in consultation, among others, with the Central Fire Brigades Advisory Council. The code has been circulated to all chief fire officers, and my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, who is responsible for providing information to farmers, has arranged for widespread publicity to be given to it.
