§ Mr. Pinkasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action his Department is taking to combat the rapid growth of "Japanese Seaweed" to avoid the spoliation of coastal amenities.
§ Mr. Eldon GriffithsI would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science on 16th October 1973. I am satisfied that, on the basis of investigation and eradication achieved so far, no serious threat to coastal amenities exists at present. When further results of the research supported by the Natural Environment Research Council are available I will consider whether additional action, including advice to local authorities, may need to be taken.—[Vol. 861, c.34.]
