Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what the 1972 and 1973—30th June—figures are for the size of the police force in Scotland; and what numerical increase the total for each year represents over the figure for the preceding year.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The actual strength of the regular police force in Scotland at 30th June 1972 and 30th June 1973 was 11,047 and 11,324 respectively. These figures represent numerical increases of 472 and 277 respectively over the years immediately preceding 30th June 1972 and 30th June 1973.
