HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 cc575-6W
Mr. Barnes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from the Middlesex Area Magistrates' Courts Committee about the size of courts committees; and what replies he has sent.

Mr. Carlisle

The Middlesex Area Magistrates' Courts Committee has represented that the effect of the Magistrates' Courts Committee (Constitution) Regulations 1973 in Middlesex will be to create a committee of 33 members as compared with the present committee of 18, and has asked that different arrangements be made in order to produce a smaller committee. I am considering this matter, but have not yet sent a final reply.
