§ Mr. Leadbitterasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representation she has received objecting to the new recommended charges for industrial training courses in colleges of further education proposed by the Committee on Industrial Training; if she will make a statement and indicate what replies she has sent, particularly in the circumstances of areas suffering high levels of unemployment.

The provision of industrial training for its employees is the responsibility of industry, and since 1966 the principle has been agreed that where such training is provided for industry by colleges of further education it should be charged at a rate broadly representing the economic cost of provision.
