§ Miss Quennellasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is now satisfied with the fire precautions in hotels and boarding houses in England and Wales; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. LaneThe enforcement of the Fire Precautions Act 1971 is a matter for the fire authorities. Many hotels and boarding houses have already achieved an adequate standard of fire safety, either voluntarily or under earlier legislation. But much work is still required, and the Home Office is doing all it can to support and encourage fire authorities in this task. Meanwhile I appeal to all hotel keepers who have not applied for a fire certificate to do so at once.
