HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 cc577-8W
39. Mr. McMaster

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the total value of the Medical Research Council grant to hospitals in Northern Ireland in the last year for which figures are available; and if he will obtain and publish the comparable allocations to hospitals in England, Wales and Scotland, respectively.

Mr. van Straubenzee

I understand that the Medical Research Council awards grants for specific research projects regardless of where in the United Kingdom they originate. During 1972–73, the value of grants awarded for projects undertaken in Northern Ireland was £63,290, in England £3,288,988, in Wales £87,696 and in Scotland £541,984.
