§ Mr. van StraubenzeeSince January 1968, 29 applications have been made to the Republic of Ireland for the extradition of people wanted in connection with terrorist crimes committed in Northern Ireland. No application has been granted, but 12 people are at present before the courts in the Republic. Two applications have been refused: one because it was held that evidence of identity was inadequate, and one because there is no offence in the Republic comparable to that referred to in the warrant. Information about remands in custody and requests for bail in the Republic is not available.
