HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 c708W
Mr. George Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the level of imported coal; at what price; and from which countries.

Mr. Tom Boardman

The Department's "Overseas Trade Statistics of the United Kingdom" show that in the eight months ended August 1973 total imports were 0.99 million tonnes valued at £11.79 million—an average value of £11.9 a tonne. The principal sources were: USA 0.62 million tonnes, and Australia 0.19 million tonnes. Special coking coals not available from British mines account for most of these imports.
