§ Mr. Michael Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether a decision has yet been taken on a permanent site for the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ThatcherSubject to planning requirements being met, I have approved in principle a proposal put to me by the University Grants Committee that the institute's future location should be at Llantarnam, Monmouthshire. A planning application for the proposed development is being considered by the Monmouthshire County Council and is expected to be referred shortly to my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Wales. If planning approval is given, work on the new site will be started as soon as it can be fitted into the universities building programme.
