to uneconomic railway services; and if the embryo common transport policy in EEC takes account of such matters.
(2) if any EEC subsidies are available to offset the operating costs of United Kingdom railway lines which, though unprofitable, need to be left open for social reasons.
§ Mr. PeytonThere is no provision in the common transport policy for subsidising railway losses from central Community funds. EEC Regulation 1191/69 enables me to compensate the British Railways Board for operating unprofitable passenger services which are retained for social or economic reasons.
