§ 31. Mr. Duffyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement on his investigation of complaints of industrial air and water pollution in the East End of Sheffield.
§ Mr. Graham PageI visited Sheffield on 15th October. Responsibility for control of industrial emissions to the air rests with my Department's Alkali and Clean Air Inspectorate and the Sheffield Corporation. The control authorities are taking practicable steps to prevent or reduce air pollution.
With regard to water pollution, Yorkshire River Authority, in controlling 146W discharges into the river, and the Sheffield Corporation in meeting conditions imposed on its treatment works discharges and in controlling trade effluents discharged to its sewers, are actively endeavouring to reduce that pollution.
