§ Mr. Juddasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will make a statement on the policy of Her Majesty's Government as a shareholder in ICL towards the involvment of that company in the sale of equipment to South Africa to assist in the administration of pass laws and other apartheid legislation.
§ Mr. ChatawayThere is no international agreement to control computer sales to South Africa, and there are, therefore, no restrictions on companies 51W including ICL's British and foreign competitors selling computer equipment to South Africa. In view of this, the Government do not propose to depart from the undertaking given by the previous Government, when they subscribed for shares in ICL in 1968, not to intervene in the day-to-day affairs of the company.
