§ Mr. Martenasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether, in view of the criticisms of the Committee on Regional Policy and Transport and the Committee on Budgets of the European Assembly, particularly on the inadequacy of the data on which the European Commission has based its proposals for regional policy, Her Majesty's Government will ensure that the Council of Ministers does not agree to such proposals until they are based upon more realistic data.
§ Mr. ChatawayNo. While there are always difficulties in comparing statistics derived from different national sources, those available are adequate for considering the Commission's proposals.
