§ Mr. Pavittasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if nurses are the only category in the hospital service who receive overtime payment for weekends and night duty worked over the normal working week at the rate of time and one-quarter, while other categories get double time; and if he will make a statement on the reasons for this distinction.
§ Sir K. JosephThe rates of enhanced payment for night and weekend duty are determined by the Whitley Council appropriate to the group of staff concerned, and various rates are in operation.
Only staff covered by the Ancillary Staffs Council agreement receive double time and this is limited to Sunday or rest-day duty.
