HL Deb 28 November 1973 vol 347 cc217-8WA
LORD AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many people were taken to police stations as a result of searches by police officers of 13 addresses in North-West and East London on October 11; how many of these were subsequently detained as suspected illegal immigrants; and what were the names of those persons and the places to which each has been removed.

VISCOUNT COLVILLE OF CULROSS

I understand that 15 people were taken to Leman Street police station, of whom five were detained on suspicion of being in the country illegally. Two of the five were found on inquiry not to be here illegally and were later released from detention. Mr. Sultan Ahmed and Mr. Mohammed Ullah were found to be seamen deserters; Mr. Abdul Gofur, also a seaman, was found to have overstayed his grant of leave to enter. These three men are detained in Pentonville Prison.

House adjourned at twenty-seven minutes before eight o'clock.
