HC Deb 27 November 1973 vol 865 c100W
58. Mr. Evelyn King

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the amount of building labour which will be required for the construction of Maplin and the extent to which the construction industry in general, and the house building industry in particular, in that area will be affected.

59. Sir John Hall

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the estimated total labour force, listed by trades, likely to be used in the construction of the Maplin Airport complex and the Channel Tunnel, respectively ; and over what period of time.

Mr. Rippon

I would refer my hon. Friends to the reply I gave to similar Questions from the hon. Member for Walthamstow, West (Mr. Deakins) on 19th November.—[Vol. 864, c.309.] Of the estimate of 12,000 construction workers at the end of the decade about three-quarters is for Maplin and about one-quarter for the Channel Tunnel. No breakdown by trades is possible at this stage.
