§ Mr. Biffenasked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) if he will ascertain on what day the Pay Board was notified of the terms of settlement of the Glasgow Fire Brigade dispute ; and whether or not it considers that the settlement conforms to the criteria indicated in the pay code for stage 3 ;
(2) what is the expected increase in rates and earnings for Glasgow firemen as a result of the recent settlement.
§ Mr. Chichester-ClarkOn 2nd November the employers made an offer in the National Joint Council for Local Authorities' Fire Brigades which negotiates firemen's pay for the whole of90W The corresponding figure for manual occupation only, including coal mining, was £38.10. This compares with a figure of £39.80 for the various grades of manual workers affected by the National Coal Board agreement, whose average gross weekly earnings were thus above the average for all manual workers.
