HC Deb 27 November 1973 vol 865 cc84-5W
34. Mr. Bray

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is satisfied with the facilities currently available for training building operatives in north-east Lancashire including the county district of Rossendale.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

I have consulted the Construction Industry Training Board and I am satisfied that adequate training facilities exist to meet the present level of demand from the building industry in north-east Lancashire. There are also 108 places available in the area under the training opportunities Scheme.

35. Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons are under training in the construction industry in Staffordshire ; and what was the comparable figure in 1970.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

There was no provision for Government training in construction occupations in Staffordshire in 1970. In October this year 46 people were under training at the Government Training Centre in South Staffordshire.

The latest figures from the Construction Industry Training Board show that there were 3,485 construction trainees in Staffordshire at October 1972. This compares with 3,578 at October 1970.
