HC Deb 22 November 1973 vol 864 cc471-2W
Mr. William Price

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total balance of payments deficit so far in 1973, excluding invisible earnings.

Mr. Nott

In the first 10 months of 1973 foreign currency borrowing by the public sector amounted to £905 million, and the reserves rose by £344 million. The deficit on visible trade in the same period was £,587 million, seasonally adjusted—the surplus on invisibles in this period was around £650 million. Information concerning the remaining items of the balance of payments is available for the first six months of the year only, and was published inEconomic Trends in September.
