HC Deb 12 November 1973 vol 864 c36W
Mr. Redmond

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what discussions she has had with the National College of Teachers of the Deaf with regard to the supply of teachers with qualifications for teaching the deaf; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. St. John-Stevas

I wrote to the Chairman of the National College on this subject in May. My right hon. Friend recognises that the staffing of special schools and units for children with impaired hearing currently presents some problems which are being studied in the Department. If she decides that guidance needs to be issued, we will—as I told the chairman—consult the National College, among other bodies, before it takes final shape.
