HC Deb 12 November 1973 vol 864 cc27-8W
Mr. Judd

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement on the state of pollution in the Solent and on the effectiveness of action being taken by all the appropriate authorities to combat it.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

Apart from oil pollution this is primarily a matter for the two river authorities concerned. After 1st April 1974 the responsibility will rest with the Southern Water Authority, and legislation to be introduced this Session, under which it will have full control of all discharges to estuaries and coastal water, will enable it to effect such improvements as are needed.
