HC Deb 12 November 1973 vol 864 c24W
Mr. Ted Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement on the effect which the problem of the replacement of St. Augustine's Primary School is having on the final stage of the inner ring road at Darlington; and what steps he has taken in this connection.

Mr. Speed

The highway authority—Darlington County Borough Council—has made a compulsory purchase order for land for the final stage of the road. Among others, the trustees of St. Augustine's School have objected, claiming that the confirmation of the order as made would result in the disappearance for a time of Roman Catholic primary school facilities, because of the time required for replacement. I am now awaiting the response of the council to the various objections.
