HC Deb 07 November 1973 vol 863 cc176-7W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that on 31st October 1973 the average national wage for men was £40 per week and £23 for women; and whether he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a detailed list giving the number and grades of all types of persons employed in the Metropolitan Police and any other workers fully within his ministerial responsibilities who fall below these levels of weekly payments, and what rates they were receiving on this date.

Mr. Carlisle

Except for Metropolitan Police cadets, who receive only their basic salaries, information about earnings could be obtained only at disproportionate cost to public funds. On 28th October there were 737 cadets on a salary scale from £624 to £819 per annum.
