§ Mr. Harperasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was, at the latest available date, the total number of tenants receiving rent rebate and the average of the rebate.
§ Mr. EyreSome l¾ million council tenants, including 1 million in receipt of supplementary benefit, were benefiting under the rent rebate scheme in May 1973. The average rebate is estimated to have been £1.71 a week for tenants in receipt of supplementary benefit and £2.03 a week for other tenants. These figures do not take account of the further increase in the needs allowance in October.
