§ Mr. Sproatasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the most recent figure for the number of probation officers and training places; and what increase this represents over the number which obtained in June 1970.
§ Mr. CarlisleOn 30th September 1973 there were 4,381 whole-time and 106 part-time probation officers, compared with 3,321 and 84 respectively on 30th June 1970. This represents an increase of about 32 per cent.
Seven hundred and thirty-two training places were reported as available for acceptable candidates in 1973 compared with 424 in 1970, an increase of about 73 per cent.
