asked the Minister for the Civil Service which Ministers are currently provided with tax-free residences as part of their remuneration.

The occupation of official residences by the Prime Minister—as First Lord of the Treasury —the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Secretaries of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, the Environment and Scotland—when in Edinburgh—and the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster is necessary for the performance of their duties and is not treated for tax purposes as an addition to salary.
