Mr. Sydney Chapmanasked the Secretary of State for Employment, when he next has discussions with the TUC and 38W the CBI, if he will initiate proposals for further encouraging payment of wages by cheque to low-paid workers, inviting representatives of the banks and insurance companies to such discussions.
§ Mr. Chichester-ClarkThe report of the Committee of the National Joint Advisory Council on the Methods of Payment of Wages (July 1972), on which the TUC and CBI were represented, concluded that lower-paid workers generally prefer to be paid in cash. The committee did not recommend any special action by the Government, and none is contemplated.
