HC Deb 17 May 1973 vol 856 c355W
35. Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress he is making in his discussions with the EEC Commission in regard to harmonisation of the use of antibiotics in animal feeding stuffs on the basis of the British regulations when the transitional period ends; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner

We are now discussing with the other member States the Commission's proposals to amend the EEC directive on feeding stuffs additives. These include changes that amount to a move towards our own controls on the use of antibiotics. This is encouraging, and we hope to make further progress. The transitional period does not end until 31st December 1977.
