§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what representations he has received from the Association of Municipal Corporations on the question of compulsory markings on lorries carrying dangerous substances; and what reply he has sent;
(2) what further consideration he has given to representations he has received concerning compulsory markings legislation on lorries carrying dangerous substances; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. LaneThe Association of Municipal Corporations has written to the Home Office about the marking of vehicles carrying dangerous substances and the need for them to be readily identifiable by the public and by the emergency services. The association has been told that its suggestions are being considered by my right hon. Friend's Standing Advisory Committee on Dangerous Substances.
Regulations already require vehicles carrying more than a minimum quantity of many of the dangerous substances commonly conveyed by road to be marked in a prescribed manner. Similar regulations dealing with the marking of vehicles carrying other dangerous substances are being prepared.
