HC Deb 14 May 1973 vol 856 c247W
Sir A. Broughton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what the numbers are of unemployed persons in Batley and Morley, respectively; what percentage of the local work force each of these numbers is; and how these figures compare with the national average.

Mr. Dudley Smith

On 9th April 1973, there were 427 people unemployed in the Batley employment exchange area and 226 in the Morley employment exchange area. Rates of unemployment are not calculated for areas smaller than travel-to-work areas. The rate for the Dewsbury travel-to-work area, which includes Batley, was 24 per cent., and for the Leeds travel-to-work area, which includes Morley, 30 per cent. The rate for Great Britain was 30 per cent.
