§ Mr. Roy Hughesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consideration he has given to representations made to him to amend the Shops Act 1950 to permit the holding of Sunday markets at the discretion of local authorities; when a decision is likely to be made in the matter; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. LaneOnly one such representation has been made. This was received on 1st May and is being carefully considered. In reply to other more general representations on the Sunday trading laws, my right hon. Friend has said that he does not foresee a place in the programme in the near future for legislation on this subject.
