HC Deb 10 May 1973 vol 856 c151W
Mr. Taverne

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the increase in the price of cod in the last two years and six months, respectively, (a) as sold by retailers, and (b) as purchased at the quayside.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

Monthly average first hand values of cod—head on and gutted—landed by British vessels in Great Britain were £6.30 a hundredweight in January 1971, £8.21 in August 1972 and £11.09 in January 1973, the most recent month available. Mid-monthly retail prices of cod fillets in the United Kingdom for these months were 23.8p, 31.8p and 36.8p a pound respectively.

Mr. Taverne

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what quantities of cod have been landed in England in each of the last six months; and how this compares with similar figures for the comparable months of the two previous years.

Mr. Anthony Stodard
