§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) if he will introduce legislation to permit the private sector to compete with the nationalised industries on equal terms within their own sectors;
72W(2) if he will introduce legislation to allow the private sector energy industries to own facilities in, and compete with State-sector energy industries in all their sectors on the mainland of the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. Tom BoardmanCompetition already exists in those sectors of the nationalised industries within my responsibility where it is appropriate and practicable. I have no proposals for altering the position where their activities are conducted as statutory monopolies or are subject to special statutory regulation.
