asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount of revenue collected in purchase tax on sweets in the most recent two years for which figures are available.

Mr. Higgins

It is estimated that purchase tax collected on confectionery including chocolate biscuits in 1971–72 and 1972–73 was £74–6 million and about £747 million respectively.
