§ Mr. Stratton Millsasked the Minister of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the work and operation of the Military Police in Northern Ireland; and what plans he has to extend their activities.
§ Mr. BlakerThe Royal Military Police in Northern Ireland assist the civil authorities in the maintenance of law and order. Working very closely with the Royal Ulster Constabulary, they undertake patrols and help to provide a police presence in a number of areas; and they take part in the joint RUC-RMP task force. The possibilities for extending their use in these rôles are kept under review.
