§ Mr. Dudley SmithThe work that officers of my Department do in the field of industrial health and safety includes as part of their normal duties both education and advice as well as enforcement. The two cannot be distinguished and are not costed separately. The total costs of maintaining the Factory Inspectorate have been approximately £4.5 million, £5.1 mil lion, £5.7 million and £6.0 million in the financial years 1969–70, 1970–71, 1971–72 and 1972–73 respectively.
