HC Deb 28 March 1973 vol 853 c346W
Mr. S. James A. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what expansion of training facilities is planned for the Southampton area.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

162 additional places have recently been provided at the Southampton Government training centre, and a further 44 new places are expected to be available in the spring. There will then be a total of 431 places. The area is benefiting from the general expansion of industrial training under the Training Opportunities Scheme, and over 70 places are available at colleges of further education and employers' establishments. More courses are planned.

A new Government training centre with over 150 places is also planned to open at Portsmouth by the late summer.
