§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he proposes to appoint the Occupational Pensions Board in shadow form before the Social Security Bill is enacted.
§ Sir K. JosephI propose to establish a nucleus of the board to undertake preparatory work until, subject to parliamentary approval of the relevant provisions, the board can be appointed statutorily. I am glad to announce that Sir Philip Allen, GCB, until recently the Permanent Under-Secretary of State, Home Office, has accepted my invitation to become chairman; and that Mr. Ronald W. Abbott, FIA, ASA, senior284W partner of a firm of consulting actuaries, has agreed to serve as deputy chairman. Other appointments to the shadow board will be announced shortly. The secretary will be Mr. Peter Oglesby, an assistant secretary in the Department of Health and Social Security.
